About the Royal Caribbean Empress of the Seas

One of Royal Caribbean’s smallest and oldest ships, the Empress of the Seas joined the Royal Caribbean fleet in 1990 as the Nordic Empress, then spent some time as part of the Spanish Pullmantur Line before transferring back to the Royal Caribbean fleet in 2016. Following a $50 million renovation, Empress of the Seas now splits here time between Florida ports of Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami and sails regular itineraries to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Cuba.

Because Empress of the Seas is one of the smaller ships in the fleet, you won’t find quite as many options on board as you might with the big mega-ships, but the ship get’s good reviews for it’s relaxed atmosphere and friendly service.

There’s plenty to do on board, just don’t expect zip lines, ice rinks, or massive water slides. The Empress has a theater with original productions, several bars and lounges with live music, outdoor movie nights at the pool, a spa and fitness center, casino, plus activities such as dance classes and culinary classes.

Dining options on the Empress of the Seas include Chops Grille, the Windjammer buffet, a special Chef’s Table gourmet dining experience, and room service.

Cabin options include inside cabins, Ocean View, and Suites. The only cabins on the Empress of the Seas that have balconies are the suites. Suite options include Junior Suites, the Owner’s Suite, and the Royal Suite.
